Mo-Search Local-first desktop search

MoContext · Included with Mo-Search for Windows

Your AI assistant,
connected to your files.

The answer might already be in a document, a project, or last month's work. MoContext helps your assistant find it in the files indexed by Mo-Search, without you hunting them down and pasting them into chat.

Already using Mo-Search? Enable MoContext in its settings, then connect your AI app below.

01
Your files

Documents, code, and past work on your PC.

Mo-Search + MoContext

An existing file index, connected to your assistant.

03
Your AI assistant

Finds relevant files and reads the details you ask for.

Your index stays on your PC. Your assistant's provider handles the context used in your conversations.

Put what you already have to work.

Give your assistant a starting point beyond the files open in your editor.

Find the document

“Find the notes about our backup plan.”

Search across indexed folders, including files you haven't opened in this conversation.

Reuse a past solution

“Where did I handle this before?”

Look across your indexed projects for the code, explanation, or decision you need.

Pick up the thread

“Save what we decided so we can resume later.”

Keep explicit session notes and saved context locally, for another conversation to retrieve.

Connect your assistant.

Choose the app you use. We'll show its setup steps, one configuration at a time.

Before you start

Install Mo-Search on your Windows PC, enable MoContext in Mo-Search settings, and let Mo-Search index the folders you want to search. Run your AI client on that same PC.

Coming in v26.1 Folder access: when a folder is set in MoContext, the address in these steps is limited to that folder, and Whole index uses the other address shown only in MoContext Settings.

For setup instructions, read the MoContext GitHub quick start. Enable JavaScript to use the guided setup helper here.

Having trouble connecting?
  • Confirm MoContext is enabled and running on the same Windows PC as your AI client.
  • Use the complete address http://127.0.0.1:43210/mcp, including /mcp.
  • Check the client or extension you selected. Each can use a different configuration file, even inside the same editor.
  • Enable or approve the server in your client, then start a new conversation.
  • If it connects but finds no files, check that Mo-Search has indexed the folders you want.

A few useful things to know.

Do I need another download?

MoContext is currently included with the Mo-Search installer at no additional charge. Enable it in Mo-Search settings. You also need an AI app that supports MCP, the connection standard used by MoContext. Your AI provider's subscription or API charges are separate.

Can it search every file on my PC?

It searches files included in your Mo-Search index. You choose what Mo-Search indexes. MoContext can then return relevant excerpts and read indexed text files so your assistant can work from the source.

What stays local, and what reaches my AI provider?

MoContext's index access, notes, and saved context stay on your PC. MoContext does not upload them to a Meauxsoft cloud service. When a cloud assistant retrieves information, that information becomes part of your conversation with its provider and follows that provider's policies. Read the privacy explanation.

Can I use more than one assistant?

Yes. Configure each client separately. Use Reset in the setup helper to choose your next app; it resets the choices on this page and leaves your installed client configurations alone.

Can I connect a browser chat or a client on another computer?

The setup here connects to MoContext on the same Windows PC. A browser-hosted assistant or a client running on another computer cannot reach that PC through its own 127.0.0.1 address. Remote, WSL, and container sessions need a separate connection design. See the technical guide.
